Cooperation: Willingness to cooperate. In sociology: Activity shared for mutual benefit. We daily witness Mother Nature essentially cooperating. The Sun, the Moon, the Stars and Planets, the Earth, the Trees and Plants, all working intricately together to support organic life as we experience it. How wonderful! However, humankind has somehow or other fallen into a totally different mode of extraordinary violence and non-cooperation. Of course there is the Darwinian argument of the ‘survival of the fittest’, which would explain a certain degree of violence. Although, through science, technology and the industrial and agricultural revolutions we have basically solved fulfilling basic human needs. Between 1900 and 2025 we have come from widespread poverty and massive shortages to a new era of “superabundance”. Now, more than ever in the post-atomic bomb age, we have to seriously consider are all these wars necessary? Is what the mass media 24/7 projects of fear & loathing actually necessary for the masses to live in peace and safety? Or is there an agenda behind all of this propaganda to keep us bound to the daily grind and not question why the masses are getting increasingly isolated from each other and at each other’s throats? Are the blinds on the windows to the future opening or closing? Maybe we are incapable of changing the course of history, but at least being more conscious of what is really happening may give us some consolation. There is a saying that, “ignorance is bliss”, but that is for each individual to decide…
