Earthlings: An earthing is an inhabitant of the planet Earth, typically referring to a human being. It implies a shared, earthly identity and is often used to emphasize our role as residents of this world, or in poetic/literary contexts. So in one way we are all in this together in spite of our differing cultures, ethnicities, skin color, religions, diets, and languages. The term ‘New World Order’, ironically, on September 11, 1990, was used by George H.W. Bush in a speech to a joint session of Congress. He envisioned a post-Cold War world characterized by collective security and international cooperation. Unfortunately, we are learning after 36 years, that that grand vision was setting the stage for one world power to flex its military, financial, technological, and social strength to dominate rather than cooperate. As the world has become so interdependent on goods and services the requirements for mutual cooperation have grown exponentially. Just-in-Time (JIT) processes for supplying goods had already begun in the late 70s and 80s, but with the widespread adoption of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems and the internet in the 1990s allowed companies to manage complex international supply chains. Lean manufacturing was popularized during this time, with companies realizing that they could drastically reduce inventory (often by 80%). ‘One World’ is a more appropriate term now as we can see that international cooperation is based on mutual respect and recognizing that no one country will have the authority or power to overrule the others…
