Speechless: Temporarily deprived of speech by strong emotion, physical weakness, exhaustion, etc. I’ve posted daily since beginning this website in early December, but today, Easter Sunday, the word speechless is a perfect explanation for my struggles to write. I walk daily on the Puowaina (Place of Sacrifice) / Punchbowl Crater just above downtown Honolulu. Today, I walked late, just before 6:00 am and upon reaching the gates to the Military Cemetery of the Pacific found them open, 2.5 hours early. I asked some others also walking why the gates were open early and they said on Easter there is a worship service open to all religions. Oddly enough, Allah Akbar (the Arab term, “God is Great”), immediately came to mind, but I had to hold my tongue as saying that out loud may not be appreciated. After all, the government whom all these over 60,000 men and women had sacrificed their lives for was now constantly bombing and slaughtering millions of innocent people in an unprovoked and legally undeclared war against followers of Islam, which means ‘submission to God’. Please don’t get me wrong as I’m not taking sides on whether, Jehovah, Allah, Yahweh, Krishna, Buddha or any other name of God is preeminent, but it just feels terribly strange and scary to me that our world is so full of hate that we allow these horrible wars to not only continue, but to say they are justified!
