Cross to bear: Refers to a persistent, difficult, or unpleasant burden, responsibility, or hardship that a person must endure, often alone, because it cannot be avoided. It is a metaphor for a long-term personal struggle that causes stress or suffering. Sometimes, after my posts, I reflect and feel that perhaps I’m too optimistic and that there is an immense amount of suffering in the world of which I’m being insensitive. Therefore, I searched about world happiness and it turns out that there is an organization which has investigated and out of 149 counties, 100 countries had at least a 5 out of 10 score based on: GDP, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make your own life choices, generosity of the general population, and perceptions of internal and external corruption levels. The Global Average which worldpopulationreview.com found was 5.69% happy. Interestingly, the country Bhutan established in the 1970s a Gross National Happiness (GNH) goal. The philosophy was to prioritize collective well-being, sustainability, and cultural integrity over purely economic metrics like GDP. The project has made progressive results in raising their collective level of happiness. From these studies we can draw the conclusion that our lives, even in this epoch of great industrial, economic, scientific, health and social progress, are complicated by numerous struggles which are our own crosses to bear. Generally people desire peaceful coexistence, good health, and a relative degree of happiness, but unfortunately that is not always the case. “Get over it”, the three most important words in the English language. Yes, we all have our issues and many are worse than others, however, it is better to keep them to ourselves and make our efforts to raise ours, and others joy, if even in the smallest of ways…
